Surprise! We're Shanghai-bound!

A new adventure has recently dropped in our laps and both Paul and I were thrilled to be able to accept.  (Sometimes the flexibility and unpredictability of a theatre artist's life works in our favor, right?)

Paul and I have been invited by New York Film Academy to helm their 4-week Acting for Film Intensive in Shanghai, China!  NYFA has short-term intensives all over the globe each summer, as well as in their flagship campuses in NY (where Paul and I have both previously taught) and Los Angeles (where longer-term degree programs can also be taken advantage of.)

This is the inaugural venture for NYFA in Shanghai, and we are honored to co-teach it. This will be the first experience of China that either of us will have first-hand, and we're looking forward to making connections with our students and the faculty and staff of the Shanghai Film Arts Academy in Pudong, which is hosting our classes. I also have some Wellesley connections in Shanghai, for which I'm grateful. The world is both vast and tiny - amazing, that. Paul and I are looking forward to teaching in tandem - I'm biased, but I think we make a pretty damn good team!

Until we leave, we will be furiously packing, scouring our tourist guide books, collecting valuable advice from experienced friends (and generous friends of friends), trying to eat all the perishables  in our fridge in increasingly weird combinations, daydreaming about soup dumplings, and practicing letting "hao bang!" roll off our tongues (thanks for that one, Viva!).

On July 4th, Paul will be ringing in America's independence with another raucous round of song at 54 Below!  1776 done cabaret-style, in the award-winning 54 Sings series!  I'll be there & beaming - always a fun night.  If you don't have holiday weekend plans, it's a good way to come see us and celebrate America before we, you know, leave it for a month! Can't wait to catch up in August. The Great Firewall of China means that we're likely taking an email/social media vacation as well, as Google and Facebook and more are blocked. So be it!

Stay cool, patriots. See you on the other side.  xoxox
